Project Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Target Industry: Logistics / Post & Parcel
A customer in the logistics industry came to IDC Conveyors with the requirement for a method of charging new electric delivery vans in a way that was safe and did not create any workplace hazards.
IDC created several design ideas and worked closely with the customer to finalise the best possible solution for their way of working and warehouse operations.
The final design was an overhead steel structure built into the existing warehouse conveyor system timber bumper and bolted to the floor. This creates a flush face and does not affect the vehicles that back up to the timber platform or bumper.
The structure houses all the components and cabling, keeping this out of the way and protected from human and vehicle damage.
The charging plug that goes into the vehicle is attached to a retractable tool balancer, which keeps all cabling suspended and off the floor. This removes the risks around trip hazards and keeps the cables in the air above manoeuvring vehicles below when not in use.
The structure has been designed with plenty of clearance underneath it in case a larger vehicle than those using the chargers drove into this area of the building accidentally. This therefore prevents any risk of a vehicle impacting the structure and the risks that would be associated with this.
